Fernando Alonso is eagerly anticipating the end of the season; he can’t wait to bid farewell to his AMR25 and fully focus on the 2026 championship. Aston Martin has slipped further down the rankings this season, partly due to several unfortunate retirements by the Spaniard. Alonso does not hide his dissatisfaction; during the final races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, he will ‘celebrate’ the end of 2025.

During the recent GP in Las Vegas, the first stop in the final triple header, Fernando Alonso crossed the finish line in thirteenth place. Due to the disqualification of both McLaren drivers, he moved up to P11, where he narrowly missed out on the points. No surprise for the two-time world champion, whose season was marked by setbacks and retirements. He can’t wait to close out the 2025 season and bid a final farewell to his deficient AMR25.

‘That Makes It a Celebration’

DAZN asked him after the race about the upcoming season finale. “These are two festive Grands Prix,” Alonso looked ahead to the stages in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. “At least, that’s how I see it. Qatar is of course a sprint weekend, so we hardly have time to sit back; we only have one free practice before we have to qualify. And finally Abu Dhabi, which is usually a kind of farewell race. Everyone takes a well-deserved rest there. I see it as two festive races,” he concluded with a grin. “Also because we will finally be rid of this car. That’s worth a celebration.”

Fernando Alonso is pinning all his hopes on 2026 and the new technical regulations. After all, a lot is set to change at Aston Martin. Top designer Adrian Newey is responsible for the chassis, while Honda has developed an exclusive engine for the British racing team. Alonso stated earlier this year that he at least hopes for new victories and podium finishes before he hangs up his racing helmet.
