Williams driver Alexander Albon is pleased with the arrival of his new teammate Franco Colapinto. The Argentine, with multiple points finishes, is a valuable addition to the Williams team, and according to Albon, elevates the entire racing stable to a higher level. However, there is no place for Colapinto at Williams next year, and it seems he will not be allowed to join Visa RB either.
Franco Colapinto has made quite an impression since his Formula 1 debut at Monza. The Argentine has already scored valuable points for the Williams team in two of his four races so far. Alexander Albon is pleased to be challenged by his new teammate.
“It’s fun,” Albon tells the international media. “His (Colapinto’s) presence elevates me to a higher level, it elevates everyone in the team to a higher level. If I have a bad weekend, we still score points, so that’s very positive.”
Albon, in his time as a Williams driver, has already gone through a number of teammates, including Nicholas Latifi and Logan Sargeant. Does Albon feel the pressure to perform for the first time with Colapinto as a teammate? “No,” says the British-Thai driver honestly. “I think if you go back a few years, you can see that I’ve had that pressure before.” However, Albon does admit that Colapinto is the first driver at Williams to challenge him in this way.
No place at Visa RB?
The Argentine’s good performances, however, do not yet help Colapinto with his future in Formula 1. The Williams driver has not been able to secure a seat for next year. Carlos Sainz will replace the young driver at the British racing stable in 2025, and it seems there is no place for Colapinto at Visa RB either.
“The problem with him is that he has a long-term contract with Williams,” Marko tells Kleine Zeitung. The Austrian reveals that Williams team boss James Vowles has offered to loan Colapinto to a rival team, “but that’s not interesting for any team. We’re not going to train someone for another team.
