Adrian Newey has signed with Aston Martin, a revelation set to be announced in September, according to Italian publication Autosprint. The report also suggests that Lawrence Stroll will subsequently set his sights on Max Verstappen.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Adrian Newey was leaving Red Bull, sparking a flurry of speculation. As one of the most sought-after designers in the paddock, Newey’s availability was a hot topic. For a long time, Ferrari seemed to be the frontrunner to secure the Brit’s services. Along with Lewis Hamilton, the Italian team could have secured two major assets in a single year. However, negotiations hit a snag, and Aston Martin stepped in.

And what a step it was! Lawrence Stroll reportedly offered Newey a whopping contract worth 100 million euros. Autosprint reports that the Brit has accepted the offer, with the official announcement expected next month. This move aligns perfectly with Stroll senior’s ambitious plan. The Canadian is determined to win the Formula 1 world title and is pulling out all the stops to make it happen.

‘Verstappen Next Target’

Not only did Lance Stroll’s father previously secure Fernando Alonso, but he also built a brand-new complex equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to propel the team forward. However, Alonso is aging, and it’s uncertain how long the Spaniard can continue to perform at the top level. According to the Italian publication, Lawrence Stroll plans to target Max Verstappen after Newey’s announcement.

Given that Honda will become Aston Martin’s engine supplier from 2026 and Verstappen’s fondness for working with the Japanese, this is not a far-fetched idea. “I will always be a Honda fan,” Verstappen stated earlier this year. “They are fantastic people. Super motivated, willing to listen, and eager to seek improvement.”
