Adidas has officially been announced as the new sponsor of Mercedes. The team made the announcement on Tuesday. The two German brands have entered into a multi-year collaboration, with Adidas designing a completely new clothing line for Mercedes.
In addition to clothing for the team’s drivers, mechanics, and engineers, Adidas will also design clothing for Mercedes fans. The German clothing brand is not only focusing on clothing, but also designing shoes and accessories. Fans won’t have to wait long to catch a first glimpse of the new clothing line. Adidas says it will be able to unveil the clothing next month.
This is not the first time Adidas has associated itself with a sport. The German clothing brand sponsors several football clubs, including Bayern Munich. Adidas was also long associated with tennis player Andy Murray and basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. However, this is the first time the clothing brand will be collaborating with a Formula 1 team.
“Our partnership with Adidas is a clear statement of intent as we embark on our next chapter as a team,” Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff expresses his delight in the press release. “Adidas is an iconic brand, one that shares our commitment not only to top performance, but also to style and refinement. We are excited to embark on this new journey and collaborate with Adidas as we collectively strive for world championships.”
Pushing Boundaries
Adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden is also pleased with his brand’s entry into the increasingly popular motorsport. “We are incredibly proud to introduce the Three Stripes into F1 as the official partner of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, one of the most successful teams ever. Together, we share a passion for speed, innovation, and performance. We will support the drivers and the team in pushing boundaries on the track.”
