McLaren CEO Zak Brown is still basking in the glow of Lando Norris’ first Formula 1 victory. Brown has repeatedly hinted that his driver could give Red Bull’s champions a run for their money. He previously stated that Max Verstappen wouldn’t win titles in a different car, and now, Brown confidently asserts that Norris is faster than the Dutch driver.
While a heated battle seems to be brewing at the forefront, Zak Brown is more than happy to fan the flames. The American CEO doesn’t mince words. Following Lando Norris’ first victory in Miami, he considers him the best driver on the grid. “I think he (Norris) could beat Verstappen in the same car,” says Zak Brown. “It would be a fantastic fight.”
“When it comes to pure talent, I haven’t seen a faster driver than Lando,” continued the 52-year-old Brown. “I’m sure Verstappen could be just as fast. Not everyone will agree with that, but we’ll only know for sure if you put them in the same car. From everything I’ve seen of Lando, I just don’t think there’s a faster driver than him.”
A Significant First Victory
In the end, Zak Brown is pleased that Norris has secured his first victory. It can only aid him in the upcoming battle with Ferrari for the second spot in the championship. “Something special always happens when drivers win for the first time,” he explained. “Now that you know it’s possible, you can relax a bit.”
