A selection of watches from the private collection of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher were auctioned off on Tuesday. The prestigious auction house Christie’s made eight timepieces available on behalf of the German driver’s family. The watches, including some unique pieces, fetched a total of four million Swiss francs (over four million euros).

Highlight Pieces

One of the most notable watches from the collection was a unique creation by Swiss watchmaker F.P. Journe. The platinum timepiece, the Vagabondage 1, was a Christmas gift from former Ferrari team boss Jean Todt. The dial features a Ferrari logo, Schumacher’s racing helmet, and the number 7 – a nod to the seven titles the German driver has won in Formula 1. The watch sold for over 1.5 million euros.

Another eye-catcher was a unique Royal Oak from watchmaker Audemars Piguet. This timepiece also boasts several Schumacher details. Initially estimated at a value of around 250 thousand euros, the watch went under the hammer for over 330 thousand euros.

Michael Schumacher’s Legacy

Michael Schumacher was active in Formula 1 from 1991 to 2012. With his seven titles, he still holds the record for the most world championships won. In 2013, the German driver had an accident during a skiing holiday in the French Meribel. He is still being cared for in a family home in Switzerland, his current condition remains private.
