With the first quarter of the season behind us, team boss Mike Krack reflects positively on Aston Martin’s races. Granted, the green racing team has not yet made it to the podium in 2024, but they have achieved their objectives. According to Krack, Aston Martin is ‘meeting expectations’ for the current season. The Silverstone-based team is introducing significant upgrades at Imola.
“It’s been a busy few weeks,” says Mike Krack. The Luxembourg team boss looks back on behalf of Aston Martin at the past six races and the first quarter of the 2024 season. “So far, we are meeting expectations. Our team is close to the forefront, but the margins are small. We initially expected to be the fifth team – that often turns out to be the case in the races.” However, the team can be a serious contender in the qualifications. “We often have the third fastest car,” the team boss also knows. “We want to build on those fast laps.”
Aston Martin is a team with gigantic ambitions; under the leadership of Lawrence Stroll, it wants to compete for championships in the future. Mike Krack would like to emphasize that the operation is experiencing strong growth. “Our pit stops are often fast and we have not lost any time due to technical defects,” says the Luxembourger. “That has everything to do with the hard work being done in the factory.”
‘Everyone Comes with Upgrades’
This coming weekend, Aston Martin hopes to deliver another blow in the midfield. “We can’t wait to be back on the grid at Imola,” Krack explains. “Our priority is always to score points. Overtaking is difficult at Imola, so we need to make sure we’re in a good position right away. We want to qualify strongly and convert that speed into a good result during the race.”
Upcoming Upgrades for Aston Martin in the First European Race
The first European race is also marked by significant upgrades. Aston Martin is reportedly introducing new sidepods and a new floor. “With these, we can improve ourselves in multiple areas – but of course, everyone comes with upgrades,” concludes Mike Krack. “No one is standing still in Formula 1.”
Aston Martin’s Current Standing and Future Prospects
Aston Martin is currently in fifth place in the constructors’ championship with 42 points. 33 of these can be attributed to Fernando Alonso. The Spanish veteran recently signed a new contract with the Silverstone team. He will continue to race in green even in 2026 when the team enters a significant partnership with engine supplier Honda. The future of his teammate, Lance Stroll, remains unclear. The Canadian has already faced much criticism for his current performance.
Fernando Alonso’s Contribution to Aston Martin’s Success
Fernando Alonso was responsible for nearly 80% of the points that Aston Martin scored in 2024.
