Jack Doohan has revealed he received death threats ahead of the Miami GP. According to the Australian, the situation was so severe before his final Formula 1 race that he was guarded by three armed men and even needed a police escort for the Alpine driver. “That’s certainly not the most pleasant way to go racing,” Doohan said.

Jack Doohan spent seven Grand Prix weekends as a Formula 1 driver with the Alpine team in 2025, until he had to give his seat up for the Emilia‑Romagna GP to Franco Colapinto. In the latest season of Netflix’s Drive To Survive the Australian makes a shocking revelation about his time in the top class: Doohan received death threats ahead of the Miami GP, his final Formula 1 race.

“I got six or seven emails saying that if I was still in the car during the Miami GP, all my limbs would be cut off,” Doohan says. “People said they’d kill me here if I didn’t get out of the car.” In a later scene in the episode ‘Strictly Business’ the Australian explains further: “I was (in Miami, ed.) with my girlfriend and my trainer, and I had three armed men (as security, ed.). I had to call my police escort to come and get the situation under control. That’s certainly not the most pleasant way to go racing.”

To The Athletic, Alpine confirms the team was indeed aware of the threats against Doohan, and together with F1 and the organisers of the Miami GP has taken measures.

Multiple drivers targeted

The threats against Doohan were not the only hateful messages a driver faced last season. Yuki Tsunoda also suffered online abuse after an incident in free practice with Colapinto at Imola. Andrea Kimi Antonelli was later in the year threatened online after he was unable to keep Lando Norris behind him during the Qatar GP.
