Max Verstappen recently unloaded on the current F1 rulebook. He believes it’s drifting too close to Formula E. Rumour mills even suggested he might pack it in from the sport’s premier category over that — but for now he says those stories can be tossed in the bin.
Team principal Laurent Mekies said yesterday in Bahrain that he had ‘zero worries’ that Verstappen would turn his back on F1. Verstappen himself confirms that in the paddock. “If I don’t like something, that doesn’t mean I won’t do it. But as a purist and a motorsport fan I would simply have preferred it to be different. I also know I have to work with this. I can’t change it now, can I?”
“But I always try to extract the maximum from it,” he says, combative. “I really enjoy working with everyone in the team and now with our own power unit. Those are the positives. Would I have preferred the regulations to be different? Yes. But I know this is what it is, so you’ve got to make do.”
