Sebastian Vettel reveals that the first plans with Max Verstappen for a potential entry in the 24 Hours of Le Mans are already being made. The German says the two former team-mates have already talked about their shared ambition to contest the prestigious endurance race, although no concrete date has been chosen yet. ‘If the opportunity comes, we want to drive Le Mans together,’ Vettel says.

Max Verstappen has spoken several times about racing ambitions outside Formula 1. The Dutchman brought it up again last week while criticising the current cars in the top category. Verstappen labelled driving the 2026 cars ‘Formula E on steroids’ and openly cast doubt over his Formula 1 future. He quickly reassured his Dutch fans, though: “Then I’ll just race somewhere else. We can probably throw a barbecue there and put up a fun marquee.”

One of the races Verstappen would like to contest outside Formula 1 is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. His father Jos Verstappen won the endurance race once in 2008. According to Sebastian Vettel — who would be keen to be the Dutchman’s team-mate — plans for a possible entry by Verstappen junior are already being discussed at length.

‘Driving Le Mans Together’

“I’m in regular contact with Max,” the four-time world champion tells ServusTV. “We’ve talked about that if the opportunity comes, we want to drive Le Mans together.” A potential entry in the prestigious race at Le Mans in France would be just the latest off-programme outing for Verstappen. Last year the Dutch driver made his GT3 debut on the Nordschleife, and he immediately won his first race at the famous German circuit.
