Former world champion Jenson Button has been named an ambassador for Aston Martin! The team announced it on Monday. The Brit was previously closely linked with Williams, where he held a similar role. Although he never raced for Aston Martin — or any of the team’s earlier incarnations — Button is affiliated with engine supplier Honda. The 46-year-old driver bowed out of motorsport last year with a final outing at the 8 Hours of Bahrain.

In 2021 Jenson Button joined Williams as a senior adviser, the team that handed him his Formula 1 debut in 2000. He also served as an ambassador for the British outfit. He has now found a new home at rivals Aston Martin. On Monday the stable announced Button has committed to the team for several years in the same capacity. That reunites him with former teammates Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne.

‘Can’t wait for Melbourne’

“I’m hugely excited to join Aston Martin, particularly during such a unique transition in the history of both the team and the sport,” Button said. “The new partnership with Honda was a key reason I signed with Aston Martin,” he confirmed. “I’m also looking forward to bringing my years of experience into my new role as ambassador. 2026 promises to be a fascinating season, and being part of such an ambitious operation is simply a fantastic opportunity. I can’t wait for Melbourne.”

After a successful run in the junior categories, Button made his F1 debut with Williams in 2000. From 2004 he established himself as a genuine front-runner, finishing third in the World Championship for BAR Honda. His first victory came at the 2006 Hungarian GP; in soaking conditions he crossed the line more than thirty seconds clear. In 2009 he secured his first and only world title with Brawn GP. Powered by clever technical innovations, Button won six of the opening seven Grands Prix. After that championship he spent seven years as a McLaren driver before stepping away from Formula 1 in 2016.
