Lewis Hamilton believes he is facing the ‘biggest regulation change’ of his career. From the start of the new season both the chassis and the engine rulebooks are being completely rewritten. A great deal is at stake for Ferrari. After a relatively disappointing 2025, especially for newcomer Hamilton, the Scuderia has a lot to gain in the upcoming campaign. On Friday Hamilton was given a first run in his new weapon, the SF-26.
Hamilton warns that the 2026 Formula 1 season promises to be an unprecedented year both technically and competitively. The FIA’s new regulations introduce sweeping changes to cars and power units alike, aimed at improving overtaking. Ferrari presented its new car on Friday at its home circuit in Fiorano, ahead of the first private tests in Barcelona. Hamilton, who was closely involved in developing the SF-26, spoke about his role within the team and the challenges that lie ahead.
“The 2026 season is a huge challenge for everyone,” he said after his first laps. “This is probably the biggest regulation change I’ve experienced in my career. When a new era begins, it’s all about development, growing as a team and pushing in the same direction. As a driver it was a particularly fascinating challenge to be involved from the start in developing such a different car, and to work closely with the engineers to give the car a clear direction.” Hamilton stressed that his role goes beyond just driving. “It’s a challenge we take on together as a team, supported by the extraordinary passion of the tifosi,” he concluded. “That support means a great deal to us.”
