Sergio Pérez has high expectations for his venture with Cadillac. The now 35-year-old Mexican sees his return to Formula 1 as a chance for redemption, after earlier having to give way at Red Bull Racing. “Cadillac is here to achieve big things,” he says.
On the podcast ‘F1: Back at Base’ Pérez speaks at length about his motivation for a comeback on the grid with Cadillac. “This is a team I want to go the whole way with. I want to enjoy the road we travel together and I’m convinced we can develop very quickly. Cadillac is here to achieve big things.”
The first Cadillac Formula 1 car made its debut on 16 January during a private shakedown at Silverstone, with Pérez behind the wheel. His team-mate at Cadillac is another old hand, Valtteri Bottas. “I want to make this personally my best season ever and get everything out of it. If I can finish with the feeling that I left nothing on the table, then that’s a great target,” the Finn says on the same podcast.
Their combined experience should help Cadillac build the new team, Pérez says. “We’ve seen and been through everything in this sport. That makes us a strong pairing. Building a new team is a completely different challenge, and that’s exactly what appealed to me.”
