Former world champion Jenson Button has expressed his admiration for Lando Norris. The British McLaren driver clinched his first world title in Formula 1 last year. Norris stands out from other top drivers with his openness and willingness to show emotions. Button admitted he initially thought these qualities would be fatal in the title race.
Lando Norris had a nail-biting season in 2025. During the opening race in Australia, the 26-year-old driver immediately took the lead in the world championship. However, he soon had to relinquish the top spot to teammate Oscar Piastri, who appeared much more relaxed than the passionate Brit. Still, Norris consistently scored good points and finished the long season with a mere two-point lead over Max Verstappen and thirteen points ahead of Piastri.
Speaking to BBC Somerset, Jenson Button explained that Norris distinguishes himself through his openness, even though he initially thought it would be his downfall. “Lando is an open-hearted driver,” said the former champion. “And I must admit I thought that would be his undoing. His talent is undeniable; he is just incredibly fast. I can still vividly remember his first McLaren test in Hungary. From the start, he was just super quick.”
