Toto Wolff is already looking forward to the new season. The Formula 1 is awaiting a completely new set of regulations in 2026, which, according to the Austrian, will add a whole new dimension to motorsport. Wolff also predicts that the intelligence of drivers will play a decisive role.
The 2026 season is fast approaching, and teams and engine manufacturers are busy putting the finishing touches on the cars and engines for next year. Although the new 2026 regulations have caused concern among drivers – Fernando Alonso and George Russell previously expressed doubts about the announced overtaking method – Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is positive.
“I just came out of the simulator where I saw the car in action,” Wolff shares, via the official Mercedes YouTube channel. “It’s going to be truly fascinating. The new rules will add a whole new dimension to Formula 1, without losing the real racing.” Last week, rumors circulated that Mercedes, along with Red Bull Powertrains, had applied a ‘trick’ to the compression ratio of the power unit.
Intelligence of Drivers
The Austrian further predicts that one characteristic of the drivers will play a decisive role when the 2026 cars line up for the first time in Melbourne. “Energy consumption will play a big role, as will a driver’s intelligence,” Wolff continues. “The driver who puts a lot of work into preparing for the weekend will have an advantage.”
