For the first time in Abu Dhabi, Charles Leclerc witnessed a younger driver clinch the world title. At the age of 26, Lando Norris became the 35th driver to win a world championship, a feat that the Monegasque driver also dreams of achieving. However, Leclerc describes his colleague’s title as ‘beautiful’: ‘This is why I love our sport’.

Lando Norris has secured his first world title. The British driver managed to stay just ahead of Max Verstappen in the championship in Abu Dhabi, leading by a mere two World Championship points. The McLaren driver thus saw a childhood dream come true. Charles Leclerc also witnessed the event and is happy for his colleague.

“This is why I love our sport so much; the emotions,” Leclerc tells the media in Abu Dhabi. Norris was in tears immediately after crossing the finish line at the Yas Marina Circuit. “As much as you want to beat your opponents, it’s wonderful to see someone as happy as Lando. It’s the ultimate dream of everyone on this grid. He made that dream come true this year and I’m very happy for him. He deserves it.”

Ferrari

This year, for the first time, Leclerc saw a younger driver – Norris is currently 26, the Monegasque is 28 – take the title. Earlier in the season, the Ferrari driver was asked if he found this bothersome, given that he was brought into the Italian racing team as ‘Il Predestinato’, the driver who was supposed to bring Ferrari back to the top. “But I drive for Ferrari,” the Monegasque remained loyal to his racing team. “My goal is still to win with this team.”
