Liam Lawson firmly believes that he could have achieved better results at Red Bull if he hadn’t been so quickly demoted to the sister team, Racing Bulls. The New Zealander struggled with the RB21 and qualified 18th and last in his first two Grands Prix respectively. According to Lawson, given more time, he could have better understood the car and achieved better results.
Liam Lawson reflects on his difficult start to the season and the moment he was demoted to Racing Bulls. “It was a bad time for me,” he admits, speaking to Formula1.com. “I was struggling to understand what was going on. I like to think that, given enough time, I would have gotten the hang of it. For me, those were two races that I honestly can barely remember, they were so short.”
Looking Ahead to 2026
In contrast to last year, Lawson can enter the final race of the season with the certainty that his spot on the grid for 2026 is secured. The New Zealander has secured his seat at Racing Bulls for next year. “It’s mostly a feeling of relief at this moment,” he confessed. “It’s also nice to start this weekend with the certainty that I have a place next year – I can’t even remember the last time that was the case.” Lawson is looking forward to enjoying the weekend and entering the new season on a positive note. “I’m trying to enjoy this weekend as much as possible, but it’s especially nice and exciting that I can start next year with a real preparation.”
