The Formula 1 season reaches a thrilling climax in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, with three contenders still in the running for the world title. Who will it be: Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, or Max Verstappen? This week, we’re counting down with three questions for well-known compatriots from within and outside the sport. Today, part 3: Former professional cyclist Niki Terpstra, now team manager at Soudal Quick-Step. “It suddenly became incredibly exciting again!”
– How have you followed the Formula 1 season so far?
“I followed the first half of the season intensively. But about two-thirds of the way through, it seemed like McLaren was going to win everything easily, and I started watching a bit less intensively. Not that I missed a Grand Prix, but I wasn’t following all the news in detail anymore. I just missed the excitement. But after the summer break, it suddenly became incredibly exciting again and I was completely back in it. I really enjoy the internal competition and the psychological warfare that takes place. I’m now following it really intensely!”
– Who will be the world champion?
“Well, realistically, it’s going to be Lando Norris. This last circuit suits McLaren quite well. It’s not realistic that he’ll finish fourth or lower, but of course, strange things can happen. Especially there. So let’s hope that Max still pulls it off!”
How will you watch the final race in Abu Dhabi on Sunday?
“I’ll be watching the race comfortably at home on my couch this Sunday. I don’t want to be disturbed and certainly don’t want any onlookers around me who don’t understand the sport. I’m going to watch that race with full focus.”
