Max Verstappen‘s qualifying session for the sprint race in Qatar on Friday evening ended in disappointment. The four-time world champion went off the track in the final phase, causing minor damage to his car. As a result, he had to settle for a disappointing sixth time. “It wasn’t good from the first lap.”
“I was bouncing a lot and I had very aggressive understeer that turned into oversteer at high speed. It just wasn’t what you want when you’re trying to go faster. Of course, we tried to change a few things on the steering wheel, but that didn’t really work. It made it quite difficult,” Verstappen reflected immediately after his performance on F1 TV.
The adjustments made to his car clearly did not yield the desired result. “With this balance, the sprint race won’t be much fun. It will be more a matter of trying to survive and then making some adjustments towards the qualifying for Sunday’s race.”
