After a challenging weekend in Las Vegas, Lewis Hamilton did not hide his frustration. The Ferrari driver even referred to his first season with the team as ‘the worst season I’ve ever had.’ Despite Hamilton’s disappointment with his performance, team boss Frédéric Vasseur wants to focus on improvement and boosting his driver’s morale.

Hamilton sounded notably disappointed with his own performance after the Grand Prix in Las Vegas. “At this pace, with my performance, we don’t stand a chance. I’ve had 22 bad weekends this season, so I expect a few more,” the Brit told Sky Sports, clearly struggling with his first year at Ferrari. However, team boss Frédéric Vasseur believes it’s too early to draw conclusions.

The Frenchman understands Hamilton’s emotion but wants to calm the team’s spirits. “I understand Lewis’s reaction right after the race, but he needs to stay calm and focus on the upcoming two races,” says Vasseur. “Getting out of the car and giving your first comment is always a bit too intense.” According to Vasseur, Hamilton’s frustration can mainly be traced back to his starting position: “Lewis was there in the training sessions, the pace was good. But starting from P20, it’s almost impossible to achieve a top result.”

Focus on Progress

Although Hamilton fought his way forward and eventually finished a minute behind Max Verstappen, the contrast between expectations and reality remains painfully visible. Ferrari had hoped to open the title hunt with Hamilton on board, but now faces a winter full of work. Vasseur is already trying to look ahead: “For now, we need to stay calm and handle the next two races well. After that, we’ll analyze the season – but not in the heat of the moment.”
