Toto Wolff has sold a portion of his shares in Mercedes. George Russell, CEO and founder of cybersecurity giant CrowdStrike, has acquired a 15 percent stake in Wolff’s ownership share, making the American an immediate co-owner of the team.
The transaction does not alter the existing power dynamics: Mercedes-Benz, INEOS, and Wolff each continue to own a third of the team. However, the internal structure within Wolff’s share does change. That portion of the ownership is no longer solely held by the Austrian, but is now partially owned by Kurtz.
The sale of shares is not a sign that Wolff wants to scale back. On the contrary, he remains fully active in all his roles as team boss and CEO. According to him, Kurtz’s arrival should primarily be seen as a strategic reinforcement. The American is no stranger to motorsport: he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans (LMP2) in 2023.
