The American team Cadillac is busy with the final preparations ahead of their Formula 1 debut in 2026. Driver Sergio Pérez was already spotted in a black Ferrari at Imola, preparing for his return to the premier class. In addition, the American racing stable is still actively recruiting key personnel. Reportedly, Cadillac has succeeded in contracting Jason Somerville, the architect behind the FIA regulations for 2026.
According to the Italian Autoracer.it, Cadillac is working on bringing in Jason Somerville. Somerville is currently the head of aerodynamics at the FIA. In this role, he was closely involved in the development of the F1 regulations for 2026. If the FIA executive indeed wants to move to Cadillac, he will be required to take a mandatory six-month ‘gardening leave’. In May 2026, Somerville can then start at Cadillac.
Multiple Big Names at Cadillac
Somerville is not the first big name in the Formula 1 world to be associated with the eleventh team on the grid, Cadillac. Nick Chester – former technical director of Renault – John McQuilliam – former designer for Williams among others – and Jon Tomlinson – previously also employed by Williams and Renault – are already working for the American team. Former F1 figurehead Pat Symonds is involved with Cadillac as a consultant.
