McLaren team boss Andrea Stella is impressed by the new generation of drivers in Formula 1. The Italian believes the current grid is so strong, he dares to label it as the strongest ever. ‘I can’t recall any other season having such a competitive group of drivers,’ says the McLaren team boss.
Although McLaren is dominating Formula 1 this year, the entire field is closely matched. Nineteen out of twenty drivers have already managed to secure a spot in the top six during a Grand Prix in 2025. Only Franco Colapinto is still waiting for this racing result. McLaren team boss Andrea Stella tips his hat to the current generation of drivers.
“I think what we’re seeing this season in Formula 1, in terms of competitiveness – and this is something you might want to analyze – I can’t recall any other season having such a competitive group of drivers,” he tells the media ahead of the GP Las Vegas. “The new generation of drivers is just so good, and now you have seven, eight drivers who are performing at world championship level. As I said, I’m not sure if this has ever happened before.”
Level of Junior Categories
The Italian also knows why the current level in the premier class is so high. “This is possibly due to the high level of the junior categories nowadays,” Stella explains. “These guys are karting and already have the right data at an early age. They are training at a certain level when they are adolescents. This is why the field is so extremely competitive, and that’s why the difference is in that last one percent.”
