George Russell is looking forward to the Grand Prix weekend in Las Vegas with confidence. Last year, the Brit convincingly won the race on The Strip, and this season, Mercedes has already performed strongly in cold conditions, such as in Canada. The team could therefore perform well again in the low temperatures of Las Vegas, although Russell does not expect them to be as strong as in 2024.

A year ago, George Russell won the second edition of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The Brit started from pole position and steadily built his lead during the race. The Mercedes driver expects the team to be strong again this year, but not as dominant as in 2024. “I expect us to be strong,” Russell anticipates. “I would be very surprised if we are as strong as last year, but we hope so.” According to the Brit, the character of the circuit offers opportunities again this weekend. “I think Vegas will be a good chance for us. We notice this year that we often perform well on circuits where the tires do not overheat, and I think this will be such a track again.”

Repeat of 2024?

When asked if a repeat of last year is possible during this edition of the GP Las Vegas, Russell responds cautiously. “I don’t think so, because we have improved the car for the full season of 24 races. As a result, we perform less well in extreme situations, and Vegas is such an extreme circuit.” With three races and one sprint race to go, Russell, along with the team, is focusing on a weekend where every point is crucial in the battle for second place in the constructors’ championship.
