With a commanding sprint race in which his first place was never in jeopardy, Lando Norris has made a second strong impression ahead of the GP São Paulo. The British championship leader has increased his lead in the title race over both his closest pursuer Oscar Piastri (who dropped out) and Max Verstappen (who finished fourth).

In Mexico two weeks ago, he was in a class of his own, and for the first two days in Brazil, no one has been able to match Lando Norris. He won the sprint race in style, despite a restart and with Kimi Antonelli breathing down his neck for many laps. Due to the crash of his teammate Oscar Piastri, he gains eight points in the World Championship and extends his lead to 43 points.

“It was a tough race,” Norris said. “But that only makes the victory even sweeter. Kimi didn’t make it easy for me, he kept me under pressure throughout the race. Again, it was tough, but well, that’s what you expect in this race. Especially towards the end, I was struggling, the tires were almost completely worn out. We have,” Norris believes, “some homework to do for the qualification.”
