Former racer Sebastian Vettel was spotted in the paddock ahead of the São Paulo GP, drawing attention to the Amazon region with a new project. Back in the Formula 1 atmosphere, Vettel was naturally asked about the current season and the title fight between the two McLaren drivers and Max Verstappen. The four-time world champion knows who the favorite is, but warns that a crazy weekend in Brazil could turn the championship upside down.
With four Grands Prix and two sprints left, Lando Norris leads the championship with just a one-point lead over Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen is 35 points behind the Australian, but the Dutchman is making an impressive comeback. Since the summer break, Verstappen has made a huge recovery. The question is whether he can continue this trend towards the season finale – a fifth world title is in sight.
Can Verstappen replicate Vettel?
Sebastian Vettel knows better than anyone how a title fight can suddenly tilt in the final stages. In 2010, he himself came back from a deficit against Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber and won his first world title during the final race in Abu Dhabi. Speaking to Sky Sports, Vettel emphasized that Verstappen still has a chance to win his fifth consecutive championship in a similar way. “Yes, why not?” Vettel responded when asked if Verstappen could repeat his 2010 performance. “There are still many points to be won.”
“Of course, he is not the favorite,” the German added. “Norris is now, because he is in the lead – but we don’t know what will happen.” According to Vettel, Brazil is the perfect place for chaos. The Interlagos circuit, combined with the unpredictable weather in São Paulo, could easily cause an unexpected twist. “This could be a crazy weekend,” said the former champion, who is clearly enjoying the current title fight. “It’s fun and exciting. Of course, it gets even more intense as Verstappen gets closer,” Vettel concluded. “I hope he scores some points.”
