This week, Max Verstappen and his colleagues are heading to Brazil for the São Paulo Grand Prix. For many drivers, the iconic Interlagos circuit is a special stop on the calendar – including for the Dutchman. Verstappen is looking forward to an ‘amazing’ race weekend for several reasons; not only because of his Brazilian in-laws, but also because of the spectacular races he has already driven – and won – here in the past.
In an official press release, Max Verstappen looks ahead to the weekend in São Paulo. “Brazil is a special place for me, not only because of the incredible races and the great moments we have experienced there, but also because my in-laws are from Brazil,” said the 28-year-old driver. “It can rain heavily there, so you can have crazy races. We know that from last year when we won from the seventeenth place. That was an emotional victory and an important moment in the championship.”
Masterpiece
On a soaking wet Interlagos, Verstappen fought his way forward at the time. An impressive victory followed, effectively sealing the championship for the Dutchman. The race would go down in the books as one of his greatest triumphs. Partly because of this memory, Verstappen is bringing a special helmet to the São Paulo Grand Prix this year.
“I will be wearing my special Brazilian helmet during this weekend,” he continued. “It’s a place with a lot of history and a great legacy, but also with so many beautiful memories. I have chosen traditional colors that really stand out. I think the design looks very cool and I look forward to wearing it on the circuit. The fans are super enthusiastic and I always love racing on such a traditional circuit. The atmosphere is unique – it’s fantastic to be a part of it.”
