Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur believes that the current battle for the World Championship is benefiting Formula 1. With just four races left, World Championship leader Lando Norris has only one point more than teammate Oscar Piastri. Behind them, Max Verstappen has made an impressive comeback after the summer break. He still needs to make up 36 points on Norris. Vasseur is gearing up for ‘a good show’.
After the Mexican Grand Prix, Fred Vasseur was asked about the drivers’ championship. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who respectively occupy the fifth and sixth places in the standings, are indeed out of the running, but the race remains neck and neck between the two McLaren drivers and Max Verstappen. “Honestly, I don’t know how many points the others have,” Vasseur admitted. “It’s good for McLaren that they have two drivers at the forefront,” he praised his competitor. “Ultimately, they’ve just done a great job this season.”
Constructors’ Championship
“They have two competitive drivers; sometimes it’s Oscar, sometimes it’s Lando,” Vasseur emphasized. “That will continue until the end.” According to the Frenchman, the battle for the title is not only exciting for McLaren, but also for the sport as a whole. “It’s good for Formula 1, it’s good for the show,” he said. “The fact that Max is also coming back and that we have three teams fighting for P2 in the constructors’ championship is again good for the sport and for the show.”
In the constructors’ championship, it remains to be seen who will ultimately take second place. Thanks to Leclerc’s podium finish in Mexico City, Ferrari regained the top spot behind champion McLaren. The gap to rival Mercedes is only one World Championship point, while Red Bull is also hot on the Italians’ heels. They are ten points behind Fred Vasseur’s team.
