Lawrence Stroll leaves no room for doubt – he won’t stop until Aston Martin is the world champion in Formula 1. The Canadian billionaire and team owner, who led the takeover of Racing Point in 2022 and transformed the team into Aston Martin, continues to speak ambitiously about the future of his racing stable. However, the team has slipped in the rankings over the past two years.
Aston Martin is currently preparing for the new era that begins in 2026, when the racing stable will partner with Honda as a factory team. Thanks to substantial investments in the state-of-the-art factory in Silverstone and the recruitment of top specialists like Adrian Newey and Enrico Cardile, Stroll aims to propel the team to the absolute top of Formula 1. For now, the British outfit is fully focused on the opportunities offered by the new 2026 regulations.”The entire team is coming together, and we are looking forward to next year, to a massive change in the rules and regulations,” Stroll said on Aston Martin’s official YouTube channel. “We are also taking another big step as Honda becomes our official engine partner. The fact that we will be a factory team for the first time in our history is a completely new experience. It means we are designing an engine that integrates with the chassis, rather than a customer engine that is delivered ready-made,” he explained.
‘I am tireless’
“There is a huge excitement within the team,” he continued enthusiastically. “I myself am tireless and will not give up until the mission is accomplished. And that mission is to become world champion.” However, in recent years, Aston Martin seemed to be regressing. After a strong start to the 2023 season, the team scored a whopping 280 World Championship points and finished in fifth place, but had to settle for 94 points in 2024. In the current season, Aston Martin is in seventh place with ‘only’ 69 points.
In 2026, it will be up to Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll again to live up to the high ambitions – the driver line-up remains unchanged. However, experts expect that Aston Martin will sooner or later have to reconsider the driver duo. Alonso has already admitted that his retirement is approaching, while Stroll junior often falls short. In the last 31(!) qualifications, he consistently finished behind his Spanish teammate.
