Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur is pleased with the outcome of the Mexican Grand Prix. With a strong qualification, a solid race, and a podium finish, Vasseur emphasized the positive feeling the team retains from this weekend. With this result, Ferrari hopes to secure the second place in the constructors’ championship, where the team currently stands with 356 points, just one point ahead of Mercedes and ten points ahead of Red Bull.
“The weekend was generally good for us. We had a strong pace and we’re not far behind to compete for pole positions, and P2-P3 is a decent result,” Vasseur said after the race. However, he admitted that the difference with some competitors is still noticeable, especially during long runs. The Frenchman praised Lando Norris for his impressive speed: “I think Lando showed already on Friday afternoon that he was on another level during the long stint, and he did it again during the race.”
According to Vasseur, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a challenging circuit, especially because the teams drive here with the highest cooling settings of the season. “It’s the only time this season that we drive with so much cooling, and then you don’t exactly know where the others stand. But overall, we did well: this weekend we were competitive from round one.” Vasseur emphasized that a large part of Ferrari’s performance depends on the cooling: “To tune the car well, you have to predict how the race will go. As a result, we sometimes lose some speed.”
Battle for Points in Full Swing
With the positive result in Mexico, Ferrari hopes to consolidate the second place in the constructors’ championship. The Italian racing stable currently stands at 356 points, followed by Mercedes just one point behind and Red Bull with a deficit of ten points. With four more races and two sprint races to go, there is still much at stake and the battle for the second place can go in any direction.
