Max Verstappen continues his strong performance in Mexico City. During the second free practice for the Grand Prix of Mexico, the reigning world champion clocks the fastest time, followed by Charles Leclerc and Kimi Antonelli. Championship leader Oscar Piastri struggles on the Mexican asphalt and ends up in P12.

During the first free practice, nine drivers gave up their seats to a whole array of rookies, but now all regular drivers are behind the wheel. Max Verstappen is also driving his first laps this weekend. Red Bull has introduced an update package in Mexico and the Dutchman is driving with a modified floor among other things. The team is clearly pulling out all the stops and is launching a full-on attack on McLaren.

However, it is Charles Leclerc who, just like in FP1, sets the tone and the Ferrari driver is proudly at the top after a quarter of an hour. The Monegasque, after his podium finish in Austin, already indicated that the Maranello team has found something that helps them better understand the capricious SF-25.

When the soft tires are fitted, it is Verstappen who immediately drives to the fastest time. Things are less prosperous for Oscar Piastri. The championship leader seems to have lost his form somewhat in recent times and also struggles in this session with his McLaren. The Australian doesn’t get further than P12, teammate Lando Norris takes the fourth spot.

The third free practice is scheduled for Saturday at 18:30 UTC.
