Sergio Pérez is soon to take the wheel of a Ferrari Formula 1 car. In the lead-up to his debut for Cadillac and his return to the premier class, the Mexican will be testing with Scuderia at the Imola circuit. Ferrari will be supplying engines to the American racing team from 2026, thus working closely with the team. For Pérez, the test represents a significant opportunity to reassess his skills.

In November, Sergio Pérez will spend at least two days driving a Ferrari. The tests are part of a so-called TPC day, where teams are allowed to run trial laps with older cars. It is only in January, when the pre-season tests take place, that Cadillac will have its own Formula 1 car. Therefore, the racing team has entered into an agreement with Ferrari, which will supply engines for Cadillac until 2028.

‘Specific Training in the Car’

During a charity football match in Mexico City, Pérez confirmed that he will indeed be stepping into a Ferrari. “No matter how much I train, I need time and mileage in the car,” he told the media present. Since leaving Red Bull in 2024, the 35-year-old Mexican has not raced. “In the end, there are very specific exercises and muscles that you train in the car,” he explained. “I’m going to test for two days at Imola, which will help me a lot. Our preparations are going well.” When asked which Ferrari he will be driving exactly, Pérez replied, “I think the 2023 one.”

As Sergio Pérez is currently not tied to a team, he is allowed to test on behalf of Cadillac. The Mexican has already visited the headquarters in the United States and the Formula 1 department in Silverstone. “It’s always nice to have a team that listens to you, supports you, and appreciates you,” he said earlier. “Every driver dreams of that.” His future teammate Valtteri Bottas has less freedom. As he is still under contract with Mercedes, he must make do with simulator tests for now. However, the Silberpfeile have confirmed that they will ‘not stand in his way’ for his move to Cadillac.
