A painful record looms for Lewis Hamilton. The British star is experiencing a disappointing debut season with Ferrari – in nineteen Grand Prix races, he has not advanced beyond fourth place. This means that he has not yet achieved a single podium finish with the Scuderia. If he misses the podium again at the upcoming Mexican GP, a new negative record awaits him.
With his fourth place in Austin, Hamilton equaled the record of former Ferrari driver Didier Pironi. The Frenchman finished nineteen times in a row without a podium between 1981 and 1982. Since his Ferrari debut in Melbourne, Hamilton has also not finished in the top three – although he did win the sprint race in Shanghai this year.
During the upcoming Mexican GP, Hamilton can break Pironi’s record. If he finishes outside the podium places again at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, this painful statistic will become a reality. The lack of top three finishes is also a heavy blow for his personal record book. Hamilton has stood on the podium at least once in every Formula 1 season of his career. In 2025, this impressive streak is threatened to be broken – the 40-year-old Brit has five more Grand Prix races to prevent this.
