On Friday evening, Max Verstappen clocked the fastest time in the sprint qualifying for the United States Grand Prix. On the bumpy Circuit of the Americas, the Red Bull driver outpaced both McLarens, securing pole position for Saturday’s sprint race.
“It was a satisfying qualification, but not an easy one,” Verstappen reflected. “We were driving on soft tyres without a real reference, but everything turned out well. We were quite affected by the wind and the circuit is rather bumpy, which can quickly cause you to lose control. This required us to maintain some margin here and there, but it was another good day for us.”
The Dutchman anticipates that the audience will be well served tomorrow. “I expect a tough fight in the sprint race, but that’s what everyone wants to see, right? So yes, I’m happy with today and looking forward to tomorrow.”
