Is former team boss Christian Horner following in the footsteps of ex-rival Günther Steiner? The Italian announced in early September that he was moving to MotoGP, and former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is said to have advised Horner to do the same.
Christian Horner has been away from Formula 1 for some time now, but it was only this week that Red Bull officially severed ties with the former team boss. This marked the end of a twenty-year collaboration between Horner and the Austrian racing team. The Brit did not leave empty-handed, reportedly receiving a hefty severance package – rumoured to be as much as 100 million dollars. The big question now is: what is the next step in Horner’s career?
Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has a suggestion for his good friend, according to the British Daily Mail. The British businessman is said to have advised his compatriot to switch to MotoGP. The motorcycle racing class was taken over by Liberty Media, the commercial rights holder of Formula 1, last June.
Steiner
If Horner does indeed heed his good friend Ecclestone’s advice, he will not be the first former F1 team boss to make the switch to motorcycle racing. Günther Steiner announced in early September that he was entering MotoGP. The Italian is taking over the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team.
