Alpine had a Grand Prix weekend in Baku that they would rather forget. Both Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto lacked speed, encountered problems, and ended up despondently at the back of the field. “We really had no business being here,” was the only conclusion Gasly could draw afterwards.

The Alpine team had an incredibly difficult weekend in Azerbaijan. During the qualifying on Saturday, things already went wrong when Franco Colapinto crashed in turn four and had to end his session prematurely. The Argentine finished nineteenth the next day during the main event, while teammate Pierre Gasly could not get further than an eighteenth finish. The two Alpines were also the only two cars lapped by winner Max Verstappen during the race.

Clear Language

Gasly was visibly disappointed after the race. “We didn’t stand a chance here,” the Frenchman sighed. “It’s just painful.”

According to the Alpine driver, there was never a moment during the weekend when it seemed like points were within reach. “Apparently, something fundamentally goes wrong for us on this circuit. We’re doing something wrong here and we need to figure it out. It’s painful for everyone within the team.”

Franco Colapinto also had a race to forget quickly. The Argentine struggled with his Alpine all weekend and also had an incident with Alexander Albon during the race, causing damage. “It was a tough weekend,” Colapinto admitted. “We really had no speed and struggled with the car’s setup all weekend.”
