The Formula 2 qualification in Baku on Friday turned into a veritable battlefield. Multiple red flags and severe crashes, with the nadir being a heavy collision in the final phase between Roman Stanek and John Bennett. It was also a turbulent session for the Dutch participants: Richard Verschoor finished outside the top ten and debutant Laurens van Hoepen had to settle for P20.
Amidst all the incidents, Laurens van Hoepen made his debut in Formula 2 for the Trident team. The young Dutchman had a challenging session, partly due to the many interruptions. Eventually, he qualified in twentieth place. Richard Verschoor also had a frustrating qualification. The Dutchman could not get further than the thirteenth time, as multiple red flags disrupted his fast laps.
The Formula 2 weekend in Azerbaijan continues on Saturday with the sprint race, which starts at 12.15 CET. The main race follows on Sunday morning at 09.00 CET. Verschoor will have to stage a comeback if he wants to keep his chances for the World Championship title alive, while Van Hoepen is aiming for a good first F2 result.
