Isack Hadjar is the prime candidate to secure the second seat behind Max Verstappen at Red Bull next season. The French-Algerian driver is having a strong year with Racing Bulls’ subsidiary team. His current teammate, Liam Lawson, offers him a remarkable piece of advice: ‘Ignore everything that is being said’.
The New Zealander was demoted to Racing Bulls this year after two disappointing races with Red Bull. Yuki Tsunoda made the reverse journey, but the Japanese driver is also struggling. There is a high probability that Hadjar will be the next one given the opportunity to prove himself alongside Verstappen.
With this in mind, Lawson was asked to give Hadjar advice ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. “I think we all see from the outside how difficult it is to be there,” Lawson acknowledges. “For me, it’s hard to really look back and make a good comparison because it was only two races for me.”
‘There is too much talk’
Yet, his advice to Hadjar is simple. “Prepare well and ignore everything that is being said.”
Liam Lawson: “I think there might be too much talk about how difficult it is. At the end of the day, we are all drivers. We all need to have enough confidence to be in this sport at all; you don’t get here if you think others are better than you. So I think you just need to have confidence in yourself. Isack has done well this year and I think he just needs to focus on his work. Don’t listen to everything that is being said about what it will be like at Red Bull, because in the end almost no one knows that, except for the guys who have experienced it themselves.”
