In the United States, there is considerable excitement about Cadillac’s entry into Formula 1. From 2026, the American racing team, with veterans Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez in the cockpit, will officially be on the grid. Bobby Epstein, head of the Circuit of the Americas and organizer of the US Grand Prix, believes their arrival is ‘fantastic’ for the sport and national interest in Formula 1. Now, all that remains is to hope for the breakthrough of a title-worthy American driver.

Cadillac, under the leadership of the TWG Motorsports Group, will debut as the eleventh team in Formula 1 in 2026. COTA boss Bobby Epstein has high expectations for the brand-new racing team, which could be more competitive in its first year than many expect. With team boss Graeme Lowdon at the helm, Cadillac recently recruited experienced drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez, who are expected to help the team make a flying start.

American Driver

In an interview with Autosport, Epstein expressed his confidence in Cadillac. “Their entry will truly be fantastic for the sport,” the American assured. “I really don’t expect them to finish last. Cadillac was here recently for the race in the World Endurance Championship. I think they will be very involved with COTA as a brand, which is of course fantastic. I’m thinking of all the possibilities, especially since they are an established car manufacturer; think of hot laps in a Cadillac or a tour through the garage. Not to mention the focus on attracting an American driver. This collaboration will really benefit us.”

Cadillac’s Strategy and Future Prospects

Despite Cadillac’s initial lineup featuring a Finnish and Mexican driver, the American brand has managed to secure the services of IndyCar sensation Colton Herta as a test and reserve driver. This move could potentially pave the way for Herta to swap his seat at Andretti Global for a career in Formula 1. He is currently focusing on a move to Europe, a seat in Formula 2, and testing duties with the Cadillac team.

The Impact of an American Success in Formula 1

Epstein believes that a successful American in the premier class could elevate national interest to a new level. “For the sake of the sport, beyond just COTA and the Grand Prix on our circuit, a title-worthy American would have a much broader reach,” he concluded. “That would truly elevate the sport to a higher level.”
