Max Verstappen reveals who among his colleagues on the current Formula 1 grid he believes are the best during qualifications and races. The Dutchman is already seen by several Formula 1 drivers as ‘one of the greatest of all time’, but he himself prefers to watch Fernando Alonso during a Grand Prix. ‘He’s such a fighter,’ Verstappen explains his choice for the Spaniard.
Max Verstappen, with his four world titles and 66 victories, is now an integral part of Formula 1. The Dutchman also appears on many favorites lists – rookie Gabriel Bortoleto even called Verstappen ‘one of the best drivers ever’ – but which drivers does Verstappen himself consider the most impressive on the current grid?”In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the world champion shares his thoughts on who he believes is the best driver during qualifications. “Oh, that’s tough,” Verstappen begins. “I’ve always considered Charles Leclerc to be a very good driver in qualification.” And during races? “I’ve always enjoyed, even in the past, watching Fernando (Alonso) in the race. He’s a real fighter.” When it comes to experience, mentality, and defense during Grand Prix, Verstappen opts for the seasoned Spaniard. “He’s brilliant at defending,” says Verstappen, who does, however, prefer Leclerc when it comes to overtaking.
Who is the Greatest Driver of All Time?
Finally, Verstappen is, of course, asked who he thinks is the best driver in the history of Formula 1. “For me, that’s impossible to say,” the Dutchman honestly admits. “There are so many great drivers, from different eras. I think it’s more important to simply appreciate all the good drivers that have ever existed.”
