Lando Norris was unfazed by the booing at Monza, the driver reveals after the controversial Grand Prix for his team, McLaren. The British racing team was not popular with the fans present due to the team order to Norris and Oscar Piastri, but according to the Brit, the ‘cheering was louder anyway’. Norris also immediately defends his team’s decision to have the two drivers swap positions in the final stages of the race.

The past Grand Prix weekend at the iconic Monza circuit was, to say the least, exhilarating. Max Verstappen surprised the entire paddock with his dominant victory, while McLaren was in the spotlight for their controversial team order in the final stages of the race. The racing team instructed Oscar Piastri to let Lando Norris pass after the Brit ended up behind the Australian due to a slow pit stop.

The fans present expressed their displeasure about the decision of the British racing team during the podium ceremony after the race. Loud booing could be heard as Norris received his trophy for second place. However, the McLaren driver was not too bothered. “I don’t know why there was booing,” Norris said after the race at Monza. “It was audible, but I don’t know if I should do anything with it. I heard the cheering louder than the booing, so that’s the most important thing for me.”

‘We are not idiots’

The young Brit then defends his team’s decision to have the two drivers swap positions. “We are not idiots, and we have plans in place for such situations,” Norris continues. “If there had been four cars between Oscar and me, he would never have let me through like that. But if a situation arises where we are racing each other and it can be fair, then as a team you also expect it to be fair.”
