Former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner responded yesterday via a WhatsApp message to the surprising victory of Max Verstappen at the Italian GP in Monza. F1 analyst Martin Brundle read the message on Sky F1. In it, Horner wrote, among other things: “This was our worst race last year.”
A year ago, after the race in Monza, Verstappen described his car as a monster. In his WhatsApp message, Christian Horner referred to that specific race of 2024. “This was our worst race last year. We ran with the wrong downforce level. The team has worked incredibly hard on this package and has done a fantastic job. They managed to turn it around.”
Horner was dismissed by Red Bull’s management in early July, partly due to a series of disappointing results. Horner also became controversial since he was accused of sexual misconduct by an employee in 2024, and he was largely held responsible for the departure of several key people, including designer Adrian Newey, Jonathan Wheatley, and Rob Marshall.
Max Verstappen’s victory in Monza on Sunday marked the first for the new Red Bull team boss, Laurent Mekies.
