In the lead-up to the Italian GP in Monza, Lance Stroll has for the first time responded to speculations about an impending departure from the sport, which suddenly emerged last weekend in Zandvoort. The Canadian is said to have indicated internally that he is done with Formula 1.

Brazilian television was the first to report that he had repeatedly indicated to his team that he wanted to stop racing. For the conspiracy theorists: the Brazilian Felipe Drugovich is a reserve driver at Aston Martin and has been waiting for his chance for a long time. Lawrence Stroll, the extremely wealthy owner of the team and father of Lance Stroll, is said to have changed his son’s mind.

“I have no plans for that,” responded Stroll, who hopes to follow up his good performance in Zandvoort (seventh) in Monza. “I have no idea where those noises (about a possible departure, ed.) came from. I think someone just needed something to say. I have no plans for that.”
