Oscar Piastri reveals his ongoing good relationship with teammate Lando Norris. The two drivers have been involved in a title fight for some time now, but according to the Australian, there are still no tensions to be detected between the two McLaren drivers. ‘And I don’t think that will change,’ Piastri predicts for the second half of the season.
The title fight between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris is about to resume with the end of the summer break. The two McLaren drivers are heading to Zandvoort with an 88 World Championship points lead – from Norris in second place to Max Verstappen in third. It seems increasingly likely that the World Cup will go to Woking this year, but it remains to be seen which of the two McLaren drivers will come out on top.
‘No tension’
This is not the first time that teammates have battled for the title – with the Silver War between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg at Mercedes as the most recent example – and usually, the rivalry was not conducive to a friendship between the drivers. According to Piastri, however, he and Norris still get along well. “There is actually no tension between us,” the Australian tells Formula1.com. “I think we get along very well.”
“On Thursdays (prior to Grand Prix weekends), we build waffle towers and do crazy things, but as soon as we’re on the track, the work begins. Then we are both determined to win and to score as many points as possible,” the Australian continues. “If there is any tension because we want to beat each other, it never manifests itself off the track. I like that.” Piastri is therefore certain that the two drivers will continue on the same footing in the second half of the season. “We have always gotten along well, so I don’t think that will change.”
