Pierre Gasly is confident that he will win Grand Prix and, more importantly, world titles with Alpine. The Frenchman, who previously admitted that the current season is already lost, pins his hopes on the new 2026 regulations and the new Formula 1 era. Gasly, who started his career in the Red Bull ranks, has rarely had the opportunity to compete with the absolute top of the sport.
After the first half of the season, Alpine is at the bottom of the Formula 1 standings. Gasly managed to score points for the French racing team a few times, but teammates Jack Doohan and Franco Colapinto – who alternated after six Grand Prix – failed to reach the top ten. Gasly speaks of a lost year for Alpine, but also sees the developments behind the scenes. For instance, the switch to Mercedes engines from 2026 could offer new opportunities for the 29-year-old driver.
Although he only joined Alpine in 2023, Gasly has already experienced many changes within the team. For example, there has been a constant turnover of team bosses in Enstone over the past few years. However, during this period, he managed to establish himself as the team’s main driver. He is satisfied with his role. “I am very happy and satisfied with the work I am doing with the team,” Gasly said in an exclusive interview with RN365. “The communication about what I want and need is very clear and transparent.”
“I’ve driven for two seasons with a lot of changes and instability,” admitted Gasly. “Because I’ve stayed on, the collaboration feels smoother. This allows me to remain consistent throughout the year.” Gasly, in his last years with AlphaTauri – now known as Racing Bulls – was known for his consistency, a quality he has brought to Enstone.
Ready to Win Races
“I now have a better understanding of the car’s limitations and what clearly doesn’t work,” he continued. “Now that the team trusts me more, it’s really about finding the right balance.” Gasly hopes to leverage the good collaboration to challenge the top teams next year. While some drivers are skeptical about the new regulations for 2026, Gasly sees them as an opportunity to strike, to the extent that he believes he can become champion in 2026.
The driver from Rouen is determined to win more Formula 1 races. In 2020, he achieved a sensational victory with AlphaTauri, after the crazy Italian GP. “If I can finish sixth at Silverstone this year, I can also win a race with a competitive car,” he reflected on the British GP. “Of course, you could say it’s ‘just’ a sixth place. Nobody is really impressed by that – and to a certain extent, that’s correct. But at the same time, it confirms to me that my time is still to come. I know what I’m working on now – together with Flavio Briatore – ensuring that I have a winning car next year.”
