Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is enjoying a well-deserved summer break. After a challenging first half of the season with Ferrari, fans are hoping for a stronger performance in the remaining ten Grand Prix races. The next challenge is the Dutch GP, scheduled for the last weekend of August. Hamilton explains why he considers Zandvoort one of the most beautiful circuits on the calendar.
In a conversation with Viaplay, Hamilton was asked about Zandvoort and the upcoming Dutch GP. What makes this track so special for the 40-year-old Formula 1 veteran? “It’s like an old house with a lot of character,” he described the circuit. “How does a house get character? Through all the little flaws and irregularities. Many racetracks are completely flat, but Zandvoort was built in a time without modern technology. As a result, it has dips and bumps, because the ground and hills around it move.”
Not only the circuit, but also the atmosphere and the spectators make the Dutch GP a unique event according to Hamilton. “It’s not just a classic track, the fans are also very important. They make Zandvoort one of the most beautiful circuits to race on for me,” Hamilton added. “It’s amazing to see all those supporters every year. They make this a truly special race,” concluded the Ferrari driver.
