Yuki Tsunoda has set a new, unwanted record. The 25-year-old driver moved up to the main team of Red Bull during his home race in Japan and has since competed in twelve Grand Prix for the Austrian racing team. However, there is no sign of a successful collaboration yet. On the contrary, leading up to the summer break, Tsunoda is in the worst form in the 21-year history of the team.
During the last race weekend in Hungary, Tsunoda, after starting from the pit lane, finished seventeenth. This resulted in him finishing outside the top ten for the seventh Grand Prix in a row. His last points finish was during the GP of Emilia-Romagna in May, where he managed to secure a meager tenth place. Not counting DNF’s, no Red Bull driver has ever finished seven consecutive races without points before.
Red Bull is in fourth place in the constructors’ championship during the summer break. The vast majority of the team’s 194 World Championship points were earned by Max Verstappen. Since his promotion to Milton Keynes, Tsunoda has only contributed seven points. The absolute record for a Red Bull driver with the most consecutive point-less races is still held by Christian Klien. In 2006, the Austrian remained outside the points for eleven consecutive Grand Prix, although he also dropped out six times in that series.
