Former Ferrari engineer Enrico Cardile has officially started his role as Chief Technical Officer at Aston Martin. The Italian was brought to Silverstone last year, but had an unusually long gardening leave period. From now on, he can finally take action for the British racing stable, now that a long legal battle with his former employer has finally been settled. Cardile will work closely with aerodynamics expert Adrian Newey.
Enrico Cardile – former technical director at Ferrari – was announced as a major technical reinforcement for Aston Martin in July 2024. However, an actual transfer took a long time. After his departure, the Scuderia imposed a lengthy gardening leave on Cardile, and then took him to court for alleged breach of a non-competition clause.
Juridical Dispute
The court in Modena initially ruled in favor of Ferrari, forcing Aston Martin to temporarily park its new figurehead. However, as of now, the case has been concluded and the way is clear for Cardile to fully focus on his new role. On Monday, the team confirmed that he officially started as CTO at the AMR Technology Campus in Silverstone. “We are pleased that a solution has been found and that Enrico can continue with the team, as we look forward to 2026 and beyond,” a spokesperson told Autosport. “He will lead our design and technical functions.”
Cardile reports to team boss and CEO Andy Cowell and, together with technical heavyweight Adrian Newey, forms the new technical brain behind Aston Martin’s future plans. The Italian is an expert in aerodynamics and joined the Ferrari Formula 1 team in 2016. After serving as chief aerodynamics and head of the chassis department, he was promoted to technical director.
