Formula 2 driver Richard Verschoor leaves Hungary ranked third in the championship. After finishing eighth on Saturday, he ended up fifth on Sunday thanks to a remarkable overtaking race from P11. The Dutch driver from MP Motorsport saw Leonardo Fornaroli win and extend his lead in the championship.

The Italian, who was already a champion in Formula 3 last year without winning a single race, is known for his consistent performance. This bodes well for him in the championship, with eight races still on the schedule. In Hungary, Fornaroli won his first main race in Formula 2, despite a penalty. This brings him to 154 points, nineteen more than Verschoor (135).

The Dutchman finished a commendable fifth. A fine ranking considering his eleventh starting position at the Hungaroring. However, as a result of this, Verschoor dropped a place in the championship. Jack Crawford, behind Fornaroli and his teammate Roman Stanek third in Budapest, has now overtaken him. Crawford has 137 points.

The gap that Verschoor now has to Fornaroli has never been this large this season. This is a bad omen for the Dutchman. However, he and MP Motorsport have shown time and again that they know how to fight back. This offers hope for the climax of the Formula 2 season.
