Fernando Alonso reveals more about his muscle injury. The Spaniard missed the first free practice in Hungary due to his injury, but was already back behind the wheel of the AMR25 during the second practice hour. Alonso is confident he can fully participate in the rest of the race weekend: ‘I don’t have any pain in the car’.
Fernando Alonso had to skip the first free practice on Friday in Hungary. Aston Martin announced shortly before the session that the Spaniard is struggling with a muscle injury to his back. The driver has been suffering from it since the GP Belgium, and hoped to extend his recovery time by missing the first hour of practice at the Hungaroring. In the second free practice, Alonso was back behind the wheel, where he impressively clocked the fifth fastest time.
The Spaniard explains after the session how he had to go into the MRI scan earlier to further investigate his injury. “I have a minor injury to a muscle in my lower back,” Alonso explains to the media present. “I actually need rest, but luckily the summer break is coming up. It’s just two more days to get through, during which I have to manage the driving comfort with the seat. We have found some different solutions with cushions, and that works well. I had no pain in FP2.”
Manageable
The two-time world champion is therefore looking forward to the rest of the weekend. “You always have some minor aches or discomforts here and there,” Alonso continues. “I had an MRI scan done last week to have it checked properly, and it showed a minor muscle injury. As a normal person, you would probably have to take it easy for a few weeks, but for me it’s manageable. I have no pain in the car, that’s the most important thing.” The biggest challenge for Alonso awaits on Sunday in Hungary, when the main race takes place where the drivers have to complete seventy laps.
